Why Are We Wasting Energy?
How do I reduce my energy consumption? Have you ever thought about that? I asked myself that question when a raging electric bill came landing on my lap. BOOM! 7.63 for the month of July. How is that possible? I live alone in a 2 bedroom apartment with hardly any appliances. Am I taking too long showers? Is it the cause of my two laptops running 24/7. Are people sneaking in at night charging their 2012 Hybrid Toyota Priuses? No they're not. So what is making my power bill so enormous?

All these simple things that I leave on around the house are sucking away my money
My Computer: More often than not, WE do not switch off our monitors even after we have shut down our computers. Keep both the monitor and computer switched off when your not using them. Start practicing this even when your not at work. It will help save you electricity, not just for you but for the rest of us energy monsters.
Your Light Bulbs: You must have seen compact fluorescent lights (CFL) bulbs being advertised all the time. You might have even used them at times. If you have then good for you because CFL bulbs save you energy. Use these as much as you can. If you are thinking that they are more expensive then the regular bulbs your wrong. The benefits of CFL bulbs will prove much more cost effective in the long run by the amount of energy they save.
Air Conditioner: Try not to set it at too high or too low temperatures. Setting the air conditioner at reasonable temperatures helps save you a lot of energy.
Your Washing Machines : Don't use you washing machine as often as you would like. If you have a small load to wash just hold it. Minimize the number of washes by washing full loads of clothing every time. (This Really Helps)
Your TV: Keep your television unplugged when not using it. It's a bit of a hassle but every action counts if you want to save energy.
Your Refrigerator: Bring hot food to room temperatures before putting it into the refrigerator. You can also save power by taking cold or frozen food out of the refrigerator long before the actual meal time,(your saving power by heating it).
Your Car: If you frequently drive with the air conditioner blasting, pull up the windows of your car before switching on the air-conditioner.
